About Me
What is a Realtor®?
A Realtor® is a parent, a grandparent, a mother, a father an aunt, uncle, son or daughter.. A Realtor® is the lady you meet at the supermarket, or the man sitting beside you in church or the man conversing with his friend at the pub. A Realtor® is a community volunteer, a rotarian, comes in many colours, sizes and faiths. A Realtor® is a hardworking tireless individual who gives his/her best to his clients whether representing them as a seller, buyer or both. I am proud to be a Realtor®
Trying to sell anything is a tough job but for real estate agents in small communities with large areas to cover it is a particularly daunting task.
Linda Currie is the owner/broker at Century 21 All Seasons Realty in Woodstock which she started in 1992.
“I started working as a part time Realtor® for another company. Things weren’t proceeding according to plan so the secretary at that time suggested I should study for my brokers license and start my own company. I was reluctant to do that as I just wanted to be a part time Realtor® for another company. I had a young family at home and really didn’t want any of the responsibilities that go along with owning a business. But it became necessary to do so and the rest is history”
Linda has been selling homes for 24 years and still loves it more everyday but isn’t shy about expressing her opinion about some of the pitfalls that go along with the business.
“There are many ups and downs in this business, probably more downs. There is so much more involved than showing houses. Sometimes you show folks 20 houses, then when you call back to follow up and ask if they are ready to offer or look at others and you hear, “Oh, we bought a house yesterday, sorry we didn’t want to bother you”. But normally you meet great folks who stick with you and realize that you are working your hardest to find them the home they are looking for. There is no salary, no overtime pay and no paid vacation.”
Linda has built her business from frankness, integrity, service and long hours. The service is what separates them from the rest. All the Realtors® at Century 21 take pride in the company and the service it provides to its’ clientele. Their reputation has led to the company and Linda receiving many awards over the years including the “peoples choice award” from the Bugle Observer several times. In 2012 she received the Centurion Award from Century 21 as well as being 30th in Canada for units sold.
Over the years the company has employed from 8 to 13 Realtors®. While that number fluctuates with recession, retirement and the economy ,inda is constantly looking for hardworking motivated people to join her sales staff.
“Not everyone is made for the job. We have had some great people working here but they just couldn’t figure it all out and some couldn’t take the disappointments. Sometimes family members or friends will list with other Realtors® which is probably the most hurtful thing that happens but you get over it and become stronger because of it. You have to have the hide of a rhinoceros and the stamina of a horse but I thrive on it.” said Currie.
In 2008 Linda added another office in Fredericton which employs another 8 salespeople so the Saint John River valley is covered from Oromocto to Plaster Rock for anyone deciding to make a move whether new to the area, first time buyer or moving up.
“I have been chased and bitten by dogs, climbed silos and stepped in cow dung. I have been thrown up on by dogs and babies. I have been verbally abused. I have been hugged by many.
The best part of my job is the many wonderful and faithful friends I have made over the last 24 years. And to be quite honest most days I don’t really think of it as a job but a great place to go to everyday to see what new experience awaits and who I will meet today.”
